Additional Infomation
INSSD was founded in 1962 and organized by Harvey and Patsy Rose, Ed Beals, and Aage Anderson. The focus of the club was established as “The collection and study of numismatic items not manufactured in the United States for domestic use”. In the past our active membership list reached to at least 200, but like many other coin clubs it has dwindled to a fraction of that number. Past members have included prominent authors Clifford Mishler, Russell Rulau, and Al Almanzar, in addition to numismatic professionals and ANA officers and directors. In 1964 the club was one of the sponsoring organizations for the first Convention of International Numismatics (C.O.I.N.) show in Los Angeles, and it remained active in that organization until it folded. From 1963-67, INSSD produced the high-quality monthly publication INTERCOIN, which was packed with informative articles, reports of club activities, and advertisements. For many years our meetings have featured narrated slide presentations on a variety of selected topics. Most are assembled, written, and presented by Dr. Ken Aring. Topics include a mix of countries and regions, different categories of numismatic materials, and the science of numismatics, with a mini-bourse night. At meetings, members display abundant relevant numismatic material and research resources. Members also present wonderful, winning educational exhibits at local and national venues, and club exhibits at Southern California venues to advertise our activities. We supply printed meeting topic lists at coin shows and the County Fair. Our club’s monthly educational programs are still the best thing going! |
