Additional Infomation
The St Louis Numismatic association (SLNA) has 100's of members, a monthly meeting and coin auction, a big three day coin show in February and a one day coin show in June to provide for everyone's numismatic needs. In December a Christmas party is held to promote stronger friendships in the Numismatic world! Serious collectors, historians, investors or a complete novice can enjoy these events the club provides every year. In November 1963 the SLNA was organized. Several gentlemen decided to create a Coin Club open to public membership that could promote and advance the study of Numismatics at all levels. The charter members were: Bill Zimmerman; President, Al Koller, Don Twillman, Al Wolf, Chris Salter; Vice President Lou Broyles, Chris Christen, Henry Leonhardt, George Nick, Walter Vredenburgh, Harmon Steck; Treasurer, and Jarry Hillebrand; Secretary. Today the club is ran by a board of directors consisting of 15 members. In 1969 the club filed with the State of Missouri under the “General Not for Profit Corporation Act” the policy of the club being to “encourage the science of Numismatics”. The policy is still in effect today. St. Louis Numismatics Association (SLNA) yearly membership due's was same price for over 45 years! (it was recently raised to $10.00)
The Club did not have a show in 1964 but started holding shows in 1965 with a 2 day event in Downtown, St. Louis. First at the Jefferson Hotel and then at the Statler (Gateway). In 1972 the club moved the show location to the airport area and began 3-day shows at the Hilton, in 1975 the SLNA show was moved to the Marriott with 40 Dealers. 80 dealers with a waiting list by 1982 (max room capacity) SLNA moved to Henry VIII Hotel for 15 years then back to the Airport Hilton.
NOW, the SLNA 3 day show is one of the most successful coin shows in the mid-west with no end in sight! Over 110 dealers draw Approx. 1000 numismatic collectors every year. SLNA success has been driven by dedicated Board members and regular members to set-up, run, and clean up after the shows. Profits from the shows pay for the rental for monthly meeting room, coin show rooms, door prizes, and refreshments for those who attend our monthly meeting. Donations from our club for the advancement of Numismatic has been part of our success and drive to promote and keep alive our great Hobby NUMISMATICS. Regular club meetings are held on the first Friday of the month at the Machinists’ Hall on St. Charles Rock Road just East of I-270. The doors open at 6:00 PM. The business meeting officially begins at 8:00 PM. Following this short meeting a numismatic auction takes place with approximately 60 lots crossing the block. A wide variety of United States coins, paper money, world coins, tokens and supplies can usually be found. The items vary from month to month. Members of the club may place up to two items in the auction at a cost of 25¢ per item. The auction fills up so come early. Area dealers are set up at bourse tables to answer any questions you may have and providing numismatic items for sale before and after the meeting. Children receive a free numismatic item and several attendance prizes are awarded after the auction. |
