As of July 1, 2026, Maryland's rules are:
- Coins and paper currency used as collectibles (numismatic items): Generally subject to the 6% Maryland sales tax.
- Precious metal bullion and qualifying precious metal coins (gold, silver, platinum, etc.):
- Purchases over $1,000 are exempt from Maryland sales tax, regardless of where in Maryland the sale occurs.
This exemption was expanded effective July 1, 2026 by removing the previous requirement that the sale take place at the Baltimore Convention Center. - Purchases of $1,000 or less remain subject to the 6% sales tax.
- Purchases over $1,000 are exempt from Maryland sales tax, regardless of where in Maryland the sale occurs.
