Sales tax in Wyoming

In Wyoming, the sales tax treatment of coins and currency depends on the type of item being sold.

Generally EXEMPT from sales tax

U.S. coins and foreign coins used as money
Gold and silver specie (monetized bullion coins) — such as American Gold Eagles, American Silver Eagles, and other legal-tender bullion coins
Paper currency (collectible currency is generally treated as exempt under Wyoming's coin/currency exemptions)

Generally TAXABLE

Coin accessories (holders, flips, tubes, albums, supplies)
Processed items (for example, colorized coins, jewelry, or items altered beyond their bullion/monetary value)
Certain bullion products that do not meet Wyoming's definition of exempt bullion

Sales tax rate (if an item is taxable)

Wyoming has a 4% state sales tax, plus any applicable county/local "penny" taxes. Total rates commonly range from about 4%–8% depending on location.
